La Rentrée.... to anybody who lives in France it means supermarkets focusing on selling materials for the impending school year; pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. But once that's finished, in September those same shelves are restocked with wine for the "foire aux vins". Always worth looking at because even the worst supermarkets can manage to offer a decent bottle or two.
The interactive wine map sounds like a great idea but may need a little work still. I'm currently in Imperia, Liguria and apparently the local grapes here are Sicily's Cataratto and something so obscure (and French) that I've already forgotten the name. No mention of Vermentino or even Pigato. Still, a nice idea.
Started skiing in Vermont in 1974. My parents bought a small condo at Okemo in 1976 when it was mostly still poma lifts. I skied every weekend until 1985 when I headed off to college. Learned to drive (a Subaru wagon with a stick shift) on ice covered Vermont dirt roads. Ludlow was a very different place in ‘76. Didn’t really start to change until the early 1980s. Some of it still hasn’t.
I had no idea! Thank you for sharing those memories. I grew up in Maine and learned to drive a stick shift in snow, as one does. You're correct that so much of it in rural Vermont remains the same!

Reminds me of when I would take long walk on the dirt roads of Ludlow, VT, before Okemo became a resort rather than just a ski area.
I didn't know you had a relationship with the Vermont ski situation. When did you start coming up here, at first?

We just spent a weekend in Norwich, VT, and beyond the King Arthur facility it hasn’t changed much.
Wait, really? I am ten minutes away. So, so sorry to have missed you.
Oh, didn’t realize you were that close. We’ll be back up there relatively soon. There’s more classes we want to take, and we have a gift certificate!
