As someone with a reasonable level of expertise in a hot button topic (tariffs) I get accused of elitism on a regular basis. Funny that being able to read the Harmonized Tariff Schedule is considered elitist. The thing even has a search function! What I generally find is the criticism comes from people unwilling to invest even 60 seconds of their own time in figuring out tariffs. The same goes for many other fields. Performative ignorance has become its own form of elitism.
