We just returned from a week in downeast Maine. There are untended apple trees all over the place, and I spent more than a little time wondering what they were, what they tasted like, who planted them, and so on. Interesting to read about the French bringing over their cuttings.

Indeed! Some might be seedling apples, just grown from whatever fruit was dropped there. But I see a lot of abandoned orchards here in NH, and they are probably all over Maine, as well. In the past they would have been chosen for both table fruit and cider.

when the farmers themselves borrow langhe's name, the problem was never the explaining.

Long listed in 67 awards means that the judges get to see your work. The judges don't decide the long list.

It was important to issue a disclosure.

One teeny tiny correction: it’s Paolo Pertusio (not perduseo). I am lucky enough to call him a friend and even luckier that he gave me the apples and pears for my first ever vintage of cider, so I couldn’t let it pass!

Oh! Thank you! I was given the wrong spelling. Corrected now.
