It’s my third reading of Julia’s piece on Champagne, and I remain bothered by her lumping grower wines in with the uber-expensive bottles. I know that’s not what she meant, but the writing leaves that impression, and more than mildly.
I hear that. I think she was mostly trying to encourage experimentation and exploration. Like, if you see this name on a list, try it!
Yes, but could have been easily done without inadvertently throwing shade on growers. Someone I like a lot has said something about editors. 😉

I do think 2026 will be the year more people discover the virtues of hybrids. Doing my small part.
