Turns out it's also essentially the same word in Basque (transhumantzia) and Catalan (transhumància). Latin, baby.
This is the the time of year I miss going to Georgia and going to the mountains. Dogs, donkeys, sheep, cows, goats, horses, and men in transit.
And the jingle-jangle, clink-clank of their bells.
