2012 Coquerel Family Wine Estates Petite Sirah Walnut Wash Vineyard Calistoga, Napa Valley

“A dark and growling monster.”

2012 Coquerel Family Wine Estates Petite Sirah Walnut Wash Vineyard Calistoga, Napa Valley
The Petite Sirah from Walnut Wash Vineyard was de-stemmed, cold soaked, and fermented in one-ton bins. The wine reposed for 24 months in French oak. It’s a deep violet color with a flame fuchsia rim, and it smells like meat and purple fruits, lavender and bacon. Rich but astringent on the palate, its powdered carbon tannins and heroic black fruits give it a texture like corduroy velour.

Young, too young, a dark and growling monster that may quiet down with a few years in the cellar.
