2014 Tenshen White Wine Santa Barbara County

“A big white wine, slick but with bright edges.”

2014 Tension White Wine Santa Barbara County
A blend of Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Chardonnay, aged five months in 80 percent neutral oak and 20 percent stainless.

The aromas are both buttery and sharp, suggesting melon and citrus and white peach, but high above floats a faint herbal note. Texturally it’s a curiosity, simultaneously glossy and crisp, and whereas Chardonnay seems to dominate the nose, Viognier and Roussanne stand proud on the palate, offering a mouth-filling wave of unctuous stone fruit. This is a big wine, slick but with bright edges. If you like this style but are seeking Chardonnay alternatives, try this.
